The high turnout in the recently concluded Tripura election has given high hopes to both the ruling left front and the main opposition BJP. The election saw a turnout more than 90% an exact number can only be known later after counting postal ballots on March 3. Nearly 92% of the electorate had exercised their franchise in the last election in 2013.
But it is not the first time that Tripura has seen such huge turnout in the election. Even in the last elections, Tripura has seen such high turnouts. This high turnout started from the election of 1983 when it saw an 80%+ voting.

Dismissing any kind of anti-incumbency CPIM expressed hope of winning the election.”The high polling percentage is normal in Tripura. We are confident that people have voted for us, the way they always have,” CPM Tripura secretary Bijan Dhar said.
Sunil Deodhar, BJP’s Tripura observer, said that the high turnout this time is because of genuine votes and that they are hopeful of forming a government this time. BJP also accused Left party of both captured in the past elections.
