On Saturday night Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and family had arrived in India for a week-long visit.

Trudeau on Wednesday has arrived in Amritsar, Punjab.

Accompanied by his wife and three minor children, Trudeau landed at the Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International airport from Mumbai and headed straight for the Golden Temple complex to offer prayers at the shrine.

Six federal ministers from Canada, including four of Indian-origin, are accompanying Trudeau.

Trudeau and his family will offer prayers at the holiest of Sikh shrines, ‘Harmandir Sahib’, underlining the significance of the role of the large Sikh and Punjabi community settled in Canada.

Tight security was in place in and around this holy city for the visit. Hundreds of security personnel have been on duty since Tuesday for Trudeau’s visit to Amritsar.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on Trudeau’s meeting with Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Amritsar on Wednesday.

The two leaders will have a “one-on-one meeting” and no ministers from either Trudeau or Amarinder’s cabinets would be there, said an official spokesperson of the Punjab government. According to the itinerary, the meeting to be held in a hotel is set to last about 20 minutes.
