The victim’s family filed a case against the company driver and their insurance firm demanding compensation for the loss as the deceased was the only breadwinner of the family.
On hearing the case, the court ordered the driver and the insurance company to pay blood money of Dh200,000 to the family of the victim and Dh50,000 in damages. However, this order was challenged by the driver and the insurance firm which forced the appeal court to reduce the blood money to Dh100,000.
Later, the victim’s family appealed to the top court in Abu Dhabi which has cancelled the appeal court ruling and upheld the verdict by the first instance court. The court said it has assessed all factors and has made sure that the Dh50,000 compensation is a reasonable amount of compensation to the family for losing their relative.
