Former Pakistan President Musharaf’s warning to Indian cricket team captain

Virat Kohli is known to be pretty aggressive on the field but when it comes to the best aggressive Indian captain most people will consider another name, Sourav Ganguly.
The legendary batsman from Kolkata is considered as one of the best Indian captains and has so many stories to share. The former captain who is currently working on his autobiography, ‘A Century Is Not Enough,’ shared an interesting episode during one of his visits to Pakistan.

Ganguly, who is fondly called Dada by his fans, said that during India’s tour to Pakistan in 2004 he once quietly snuck out from a hotel in Lahore. Particularly known for his fearlessness, Ganguly avoided all sorts of security and set for the ‘adventure’ Dada said that he later received a phone call from the then President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf.

According to the former captain, Pakistani fans were mourning the 2-3 loss in the ODI series of their team by Ganguly’s men. As a result, the security was pretty tight in and around the hotel. However, the Indian captain was keen to visit the iconic food Street (Gawalmandi) and decided to go for it without any security. Ganguly also mentioned in his autobiography that he used a cap and voice modulation as a disguise to hang out in the open. Ganguly also remembered that one person did recognise him in the crowd. But the former skipper somehow managed to avoid further attention.

The ‘Prince of Kolkata’ also mentioned that journalist Rajdeep Sardesai called out his name while having dinner and so he had to escape from there quickly. Ganguly said, “People started coming in from all directions and I got gheraoed. While I tried to pay the bill and escape, the shopkeeper refused to accept payment. He kept on saying, ‘Bahut achcha. We need someone as aggressive as you to lead Pakistan”.

However, Ganguly’s unforgettable night had not ended until he received a call from General Pervez Musharraf. Ganguly said he remembers Musharaf’s warning which was polite but firm. Musharaf said, “Next time you want to go out please inform the security and we will have an entourage with you. But please don’t indulge in adventures.”
