Diplomatic win for India; Dawood Ibrahim’s aide cornered

Is the police one step closer to Dawood Ibrahim? Only time can tell.

But for now, they have arrested his aide.

In a big diplomatic win for India, underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s key aide Farooq Takla has been brought to Mumbai after being deported from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Takla, who is also an accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, will be produced before Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) court in Mumbai, news agency ANI reported.

Takla had fled India after the 1993 Mumbai blasts and had a Red Corner Notice issued against him in 1995. As per a news agency, a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was interrogating Takla and was expected to later produce him before a TADA court today.

Apart from this, Takla also faces criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder and several other charges.

On Tuesday, criminal lawyer Shyam Keswani said that fugitive mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar is reportedly “keen to return to India” but with certain preconditions which are not acceptable to the Indian government.

Speaking to the media outside the Thane Court, where he represented Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar (the absconder don’s brother) in an extortion case, the lawyer said among the conditions Dawood has stipulated are that he should be lodged only in the high-secure precincts of Arthur Road Central Jail (ARCJ) in Mumbai.

The Mumbai blast of March 12, 1993, resulted in 257 fatalities and over 700 were injured. The attacks were planned by Dawood Ibrahim, India’s ‘most wanted’ fugitive who also has his name prominently figuring on the ‘most wanted’ lists of the US and the Interpol.

At least 27 other accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, continue to elude and are declared as absconders.

Will the remaining culprits be arrested?
