You are probably reading this news in a touchscreen right now, but how about a touchscreen in your arm?
Well, this isn’t about some fancy Hollywood superhero with lots of techs but is a prototype of a Projector watch, developed by Carnegie Mellon University, that can convert your arm into a touchscreen. You better build up and have some nice arms!
The ‘Lumiwatch’ is a combination of Projector, depth sensor, and the usual logic board, battery, and a casing. Powered by a Qualcomm 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU with 768 MB of RAM and 4 Gb of storage, the projections can last for an hour of continuous usage. But with sporadic usage, it can easily get you through a complete day. The smartwatch runs on Android 5.1 and has built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

The watch will project to your arm – an interactive area on which you can tap or swipe to use the watch. The projector uses three layers of red, green and blue. Swipe left on your skin and you can unlock the watch. The touchscreen with icons will then spread along your arm. It is bright enough to be seen even outdoors.
Although there are many hurdles to cross before translating this prototype to a proper watch, the researchers are hopeful to get around it. But how people will react to this innovation will be interesting. Some people would want their arms to be just an arm!
