The entry level sedan segment may not be as lively as it used to be, but it still is one of the most preferred segment for a middle class family. Swift dzire rules this class like a boss, even more so with their last update. The all new Honda Amaze is here to get a major bite out of Dzire’s share with it’s all new update Amaze. Let’s see what it got.

Interior and Exterior
If the earlier Amaze was an extended Brio, the new one is a shortened City. Sedans are increasingly taking heavy design elements from it’s costlier siblings these days and it is not necessarily a bad thing. Amaze looks modern and well proportioned. The boot continues to be stubby like most cars in the segment, but the tail lamps that extend in to the boot gives it some flair. Step in to the interiors and it’s a delight. Gone are the disproportionate, outdated central console and in comes a well thought-out simple dashboard. No car can deny it’s customer a touch screen unit anymore and Amaze isn’t. The plastics are par for the course, the storage spaces are plenty, the dials and display are crisp and sharp and the seats aren’t thin anymore. The entry aperture is wide and with an almost flat floor, a third passenger in the rear seat can make it work.
Engine and equipments
The Honda amaze comes in two engine options – the popular 1.2 petrol that makes 90 bhp and the 1.5 diesel with 100 bhp. In a segment first, the diesel is mated to a CVT that makes 80 bhp. Amaze has taken the game ahead of it’s rivals that offers AMT. The sound insulation is better than it used to be and the diesel clatter is less felt inside the cabin. Honda claims a a return of 27 kmpl in the manual diesel and 23 kmpl in the CVT. The petrol isn’t bad either with figures in excess of 19 kilometres per litre. The steering wheel is light and responsive, the ride feels planted when you do triple digit speeds and it hits a sweet spot between sporty handling and comfortable ride.
The amaze throws in almost all gizmos you would expect at this price point. The top of the line vx gets a 7 inch touch screen unit with apple car play and Android auto, cruise control, paddle shifters, keyless entry and go etc.
With ample space (boot is 420 litres), sufficient power and modern looks, Amaze is certainly pitching it right for the buyers. We just feel that it has what it takes to be the more ‘dzirable’.
