Indian Navy plane crash lands

Have you wondered where our nation’s supply of weapons comes from? And do they test it out?

An Indian Navy plane, IL-38, which was on a test flight in Russia made an emergency landing on Saturday.

According to Russian media, the plane with seven people onboard — four pilots and three technical specialists crash-landed at Zhukovsky Airfield outside Moscow after a chassis failure.

The plane did not catch fire as it circled around the airfield to burn off the excess fuel before making the emergency landing.

The Indian Navy said that no crew was onboard during a sortie. However, the Navy said the aircraft was on an initial test flight with the Russian crew.

The aircraft which was in Russia for Overhaul and Mid Life Upgradation is being assessed for the extent of the damage.

India has been pressing Russia to adopt a liberal approach in sharing technology for components of major defense platforms as it was critical to keep them in operational readiness. Majority of India’s weapon systems are of Russian origin.
