Girl scholar was attacked with a knife by a youth in Annamalai University

A girl student was attacked with a knife by a youth near the Thamarai Girls Hostel in the campus on Monday. The horrible incident occurred at Annamalai University in Chidambaram. The victim is a student at the university and the perpetrator get caught by the public.

The girl, Lavanya, sustained injuries on her neck and has been hospitalized to the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital. The convict identified as Naveen Kumar, 27, was thrashed by the locals and handed over to the police. The incident occurred at around 11.00 a.m.

According to police, Lavanya was pursuing her second year in M.Sc horticulture. She was walking from the Thamarai hostel when the accused waylaid her and started attacking her with a knife in full public view.

On hearing her screams, a group cornered the accused and gave him a thrashing before handing him over to the police. Further investigations are in progress.
