Prashar Lake – For An Offbeat Experience
In India many destinations have derived names from the mythology. The mysterious Prashar Lake (Parashar Lake) in Mandi is one such place. The panoramic vistas of Dauladhar Ranges welcome the travellers to this enchanting place. An oval shaped lake with the back drop of mountains look dramatic, like the one from landscape paintings!
Legends of Prashar Lake Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, is said to have created this lake. The story goes that after the Kurukshetra war, Pandavas were returning with Lord Kamrunag. When they reach this place, Kamrunag loves the tranquil surroundings and decides to live here forever. So, Bheem (the strongest of the lot) rams his elbow on one of the mountains and creates a dent. This dent is said to be todays Prashar Lake.
Locals believe that the lake is in the shape of Bheem’s elbow. Hence the region came to be known as Kamru Valley. And the lake is also known as Kamrunag Lake. Interesting Fact: Till now no one has been able to find out the depth of Prashar Lake. Locals say that once they have seen big trees drowning in water due to a storm and that too without leaving a trace on the outer surface.
Prashar Lake Trek Prashar Lake Trek is one of the famous trek routes in this region. The trail which begins at Baggi Village passes through the jungles and hilly slopes accompanied by the Dhauladhar Mountain Ranges. Even Pir Panjal and Kinnaur Peaks are visible through this trek route. The mystic blue lake and a pagoda-like temple next to the lake surrounded by splendid scenery gets stashed in your memories forever.

Best Time to Visit Prashar Lake The trek route is closed in winter because the path will be filled with snow. You can visit from September to December or in Summer.
How To Reach Prashar Lake
Prashar Lake can be either reached through trekking or via road. There is one bus from Mandi which takes almost near to lake. From that stop tourists have to walk for 1km to reach Prashar Lake.
