In the jallikattu held at Manjini village near Attur on Tuesday, at least 20 bull tamers suffered injuries and wounds.
640 bulls from different parts of the state which had registered and participated in the event, only 490 were released through the vaadivasal after thorough screening by a team of veterinary experts.
All the injured were given first aid at the venue itself. Four of them who suffered critical injuries were referred to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.
District Collector Rohini R. Bhajibhakare inaugurated the event by administering an oath to the participants.

The youths, who managed to tame the bulls, were given gold and silver coins, almirahs, utensils, fans and cots as prizes. The owners of the bulls which managed to give a slip and escape from the onrushing bull tamers were also honoured.
A strong police team, led by Pon Karthikumar, Deputy SP, Attur, was in place and maintained law and order.
