Karnataka Elections: PM Modi and Siddaramaiah on 2+1 formula

With just 10 days left for the Karnataka elections, the rallies and speeches are still going strong between the parties, pointing fingers at each other.

In a recent tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mocked the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Siddaramaiah is contesting from Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru and also from Badami constituency in Bagalkot district as well. Siddaramaiah’s son Yatindra is contesting from Varuna in his first state election.

The PM said that while for the Congress it is about family politics, for us it is about people’s politics. “If CM has a 2+1 formula then ministers have 1+1 formula. Relatives of ministers are fighting polls. This is hurting the workers of the Congress,” the PM added.

The PM was mocking the Congress heavyweight’s decision to run for the May 12 election from Badami in Bagalkot district as well as from Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru. Siddaramaiah has fielded his son Yathindra from Varuna, a seat which the Congress has consistently won in all elections since 2008.

Not wanting to be outdone, the CM too hits back at PM Modi’s jibe with one of his own via his Twitter handle:

Siddaramaiah has been on an attack spree on Twitter, slamming the BJP for corruption charges against the party’s presumptive Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and mining baron Janardhan Reddy.

Two of the Reddy brothers — Gali Somashekhara Reddy and Gali Karunakara Reddy — have been fielded from constituencies in the Ballari area. Gali Janardhana Reddy, against whom most of the corruption allegations are leveled, is a top campaigner for the party. The BJP has cited political expediency, saying they are needed to win the seats in the area.

One tweet of Siddaramaiah even asked the BP to come clean on whether they really wanted Yeddyurappa to be the Chief Minister. It cited news reports on speculations that PM Modi does not intend to share a stage with him in view of the corruption allegations.
