Keeping in mind the development of the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come up with various schemes, and one of them is the bullet train.
Kick-starting his statewide tour from Vasai on Maharashtra Day, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray asked farmers not to give away their land for the proposed bullet train and Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway.
With land acquisitions for the Rs 1.08 lakh crore train project beginning in Maharashtra’s Palghar and Gujarat, Thackeray said that even before the project could take off, rich Gujaratis from Gujarat had started buying properties along the bullet train route.
He said that pressure was also being built on farmers to give away land for the 380-km-six-lane expressway. He urged landowners to retain their property and fight against land acquisitions.
“All the biggest wars in the world have been fought over land. Today, Marathi population in Konkan or Thane is selling their land for a few bucks. Your land will be sold tomorrow to make you homeless. If they try to take away forcefully, show the courage to destroy the rail tracks,” Thackeray said at a public meeting in Vasai to kick-start his Maharashtra tour.

He said, “I have chosen Maharashtra Day to address you for a reason. This bullet train project is an attempt to snatch land from the Marathi population and attach this area to Gujarat, something which they could not do in 1960, but are trying again.”
Targeting ‘outsiders’, he said that the bullet train was only a means to bring Gujarat closer to Mumbai. He said that while the people of Maharashtra are fighting over reservations and caste, outsiders are taking over the state. Quoting ‘Shivaji’, Thackeray said that the Maratha warrior had united people from all castes to fight the Mughals. “Today, we are fighting in the name of caste and that is encouraging outsiders,” said Thackeray, who claimed to have opened his Twitter handle on the state’s Foundation Day. He said that outsiders have been flocking to Maharashtra and most of them are now choosing the Thane district.

Thackeray also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the claim of achieving 100% rural electrification.

“The Prime Minister claims that all villages in the country have been connected with the electricity network now. Were we living in the dark before 2014?” Thackeray asked.
On Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s claim of digging 1,20,000 wells in the state, Thackeray said, “Fadnavis must have counted potholes in the streets as wells.”
“He can’t take any decision, as he is merely a stooge of Modi and (BJP chief) Amit Shah,” Thackeray alleged.
“There is no water in many villages but the chief minister claims to have constructed four lakh toilets.How can it be true if there is no sufficient water?”
The MNS chief also asked how some outsiders came to know about the proposed Nanar oil refinery project in the coastal Ratnagiri district and bought land in the area in advance.
“It is suspicious,” he said.
Despite the party having negligiable presence in the Vasai-Virar region, Thackeray managed to attract a decent crowd at the Chimaji Appa Ground in Vasai. Thackeray is expected to campaign in Palghar, Bhiwandi and Badlapur in the coming days.
