On quitting tennis after pregnancy, Sania Mirza has an answer. Sania Mirza recently addressed the looming question about her tennis career after pregnancy and quashed all rumours about giving it up.
In an interview to IANS, Mirza said getting back at the game tops the priority list after pregnancy. Star couple Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik, who got married in 2010, had announced pregnancy last month with a cute message on social media platforms.
When asked about 2020 Olympics, Sania said tennis players can’t be sure of what future holds for them. “Having said that though, it definitely looks very doable right now. But one has to wait and watch where life really takes you,” she said.
“Coming back to playing is a priority as soon as pregnancy is done,” said Mirza whose delivery is due in October. “It’s empowering”: Pregnancy shouldn’t hold women back, says Mirza

“Pregnancy is not something that holds you back in any way. It’s something I always looked forward to… having a family,” said Sania. “I would like to come back to playing because it’s an example I’d like to set for my kid as well that you don’t give up on your dreams just because you’re pregnant,” she added.
When asked about the factors behind Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik’s decision: “It was just about time… I was down with my knee injury anyway and we had been thinking about it for a while… We thought it was a good time to start a family and experience this new phase of our lives,” revealed Sania Mirza.
Sania Mirza was asked if she feels any new girl could replace her in the tennis world. A hopeful Sania said there are a few girls who have immense talent. She said, “There’s Ankita Raina, Karman Kaur Thandi and Prarthana Thombare… These are the girls who are the next generation.” She added India’s performance in Commonwealth Games hinted something right is happening
