Women dies in sleep by electrocution from Earphones

Earphones offer you that convenient getaway from the commotion of outside world. May be you have a pair plugged in to your ears right now, but what happened to this 46 year old Chennai lady, Fathima, will make you think twice before plugging them again. Apparently the lady had fallen asleep, listening to music with ear phones and was electrocuted. The electrocution may have been caused by a short circuit in the ear phone. A case has been registered under CRPC section 174(Unnatural death) by Kanathur Police.

Fathima’s husband Abdul Kalam tried to wake her up as usual but he couldn’t. The police official said that he was alarmed when she showed no sign of life and she was rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The incident was reported to Kanathur Police station and the body was sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for autopsy. Doctors at the hospital confirmed electrocution as the cause of death.

The Officer said that the women went to sleep with ear phones plugged and that a short circuit may have triggered electrocution. More and more such incidents are being reported these days. Not too long ago, another case of ear phone melting in the ear made news. It is not known at this point which brand’s ear phone she was using but an ear phone is definitely a device that you should be assured of the quality before buying.
