MOTHER- to most of us the word mother brings us to mind a woman, a sweet gentle woman who has immense love for her child. A son’s first love and a daughter’s first friend. The peacemaker and the referee between the siblings. A woman who is to love all her children equally.
But for me, mother is a concept. Rather than attributing the qualities of a mother to a woman, it can and should be given to one who cares for children- be it a father or a teacher.
But in this Kaliyuga era, is it possible? I don’t mean that all mothers are bad, but with the news you hear and the way people behave, it is doubtful to keep your faith in the concept.
Mother and her lover killing her child because they spied on them. Fathers raping daughters. Siblings abusing one another. The most recent and horrific of all- the Kathua rape case.
The minor was kidnapped, drugged and abused by men whom she would have called as ‘brothers’; and the mastermind of this heinous act would have been close to her father’s age.
Mother is not just a person. No, it’s your land as well- hence the term motherland.
But with the way we abuse our motherland, it is no different than the crimes that are going on. Right from cutting down the trees to urinating in public.
She has literally given up her life for us, so shouldn’t we take care of her?
This Mother’s Day, let’s be different.
This Mother’s Day, let’s take a vow to protect and respect all our mothers, no matter who, what or where they are.
Don’t let this Mother’s Day pass through your fingers, be the change you wish to see.
Unitedly, let’s take a step towards a better future; for us and for our children.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
For those you who don’t know when this day falls- it is the second Sunday of May. And this year it is the May 13th, 2018.
