Gulab Singh, a Public Works Department (PWD) employee who was wounded in the Kasauli firing incident, died at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh on Sunday. He had been suffering from a bullet injury for nearly two weeks and was shifted on ventilator support on May 10 after he reportedly had a cardiac arrest, suffered the severe pain.
Sources at the PGIMER expressed that Gulab Singh was not responding well to the treatment after being put on the ventilator and died on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday.

Gulab Singh was a member of a team which was carrying illegal constructions in Kasauli area on May 1. The team was led by Assistant Town and Country Planner Shail Bala. During the sealing process at the Narayani Guest House on the Dharampur-Kasauli road, the guest house owner’s son Vijay Singh start the shooting, resulting in Sahil Bala’s death on the spot and critically injuring Gulab Singh. He was gunned down and the hit in the chest and one in the abdomen.
Himachal Pradesh Police had come under severe criticism from several quarters after the accused managed to escape in broad daylight. He was later arrested from Vrindavan (Mathura) in Uttar Pradesh.
