UPA Govt’s scam saga never ends : Rs.70,000crores worth Air India deal under ED investigation.

The previous UPA Government was a splendid one in the case of corruptions and scams
.Now the Enforcement Directorate has initiated an ivestigation against yet another scam under the UPA watch.ED has started their investigation into the alleged irregularities in the procurement of 111 aircraft estimated at Rs.70,000 crore, leasing of planes and the surrender of profit-making routes and flight schedules by Air India.

Starting the investigation

Three FIRs were registered by the CBI on May 29 last year.A preliminary inquiry was instituted by the CBI into the Indian Airlines-Air India merger in 2007.ED’s investigation has been initiated under this CBI case. The CBI investigation was based on the Supreme court directive while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by CPIL (Centre for Public Interest Litigation), an NGO on Januray 5 last year.

CBI report

The UPA govrnment’s decision in December 2005 to clear the proposal to buy 68 aircraft
from Boeing and the decision by Indian Airlines to buy 43 aircraft from Airbus had been the reason for the CBI case.CBI registrered cases against unknown officials of the Civil Aviation Ministry and Air India. As per the CBI’s FIR, irregularirties in the aircraft purchases were found and ‘a dishonest action ‘ from the part of UPA  government in conspiracy with other unknown persons which resulted in the pecuniary benefit to private companies and a huge financial loss to the government.LOans fro the US and Indian banks were taken which plunged Airlines to debt accused the report.

 

Further details

The CBI was given 6 months deadline by the Supreme Court to conclude the investiagtion
into the aircraft purchases in December 2017. One FIR among the three has also allegations regarding the leasing of a large number of aircraft with out due consideration, a proper study of routes and marketing and pricing strategy. The leasing action action happened while an aircraft acquisition programme was underway.

 

It seems from the current Enforcement Directorate actions that the UPA government
scams will be like a never-ending saga or a series of corruptions in epic proportions.
