KARNATAKA: Kumaraswamy doesn’t want to hurt father again

There was a speculation as to whether or not JD(S) would join the Congress or the BJP?

And the second runner-up in the Karnataka elections has joined hands with the Congress. But what led to this decision?

“I do not want to hurt my father again,” he said when the reporters caught up with him at his sister Shailaja Chandrashekhar’s house. The 59-year-old former chief minister, who could be CM again, said that he did not want to give “pain” to his 85-year-old father, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, by going against his secular image.

He was referring to the turn of events in 2006 when he toppled the JD(S)-Congress coalition headed by late N Dharam Singh by forging an alliance with the BJP to become the CM. That time, Gowda had ‘disowned’ his son and distanced himself from him, albeit for just a few weeks.

Kumaraswamy said he did not want to tarnish the secular credentials of his father in his twilight years. “When I went with the BJP, he was upset and was taunted for being pseudo-secular at every given opportunity. Now it is time to remove this stigma and restore his secular credentials which I had damaged.”

But will the Congress-JD(S) CM candidate be able to become the CM? Now, that’s another matter entirely.

As of now, the Congress’ plea to stop Yeddyurappa swearing-in that will take place TODAY at 09:00 AM has been rejected by the Supreme Court.

The Apex Court has also ordered the BJP to submit its letter before the hearing that will take place TOMORROW at 10:30 AM.
