If you are planning to observe fasting on this Ramzan, chances are good that you care less about Suhoor(pre dawn meal ) and more about Iftar (post sunset meal). It is possible that you have your tummy full from overnight Iftar or you may want to skip Suhoor for some other reason, but the fact is that it is the Suhoor that should keep you going until Iftar. Skipping it will seriously endanger your chances of having a focused fasting and will leave you drained. Here are a few things you should keep in mind , so that you don’t take suhoor lightly.
Avoid these
Salty food items like pickles, olives and packed or canned food items are to be out of your menu. Fatty, fried or spicy foods will increase your thirst for the day. Also it is advisable to avoid heavy desserts.
Add these
Protein, carbohydrates, fibre and fats are four things that must find a place in your diet. Fruits and vegetables with rich water content will keep you hydrated throughout. Food items rich in fibre like whole grain bread, beans, brown rice etc are preferred. Light sweets like puddings, mouhallabia etc will provide your body with energy and sugar needed for the day.
Is it a good idea to have Suhoor meal at midnight
It’s a common question asked around Ramadan time as people find it difficult to wake up in the morning and set up the meal. But the best time for Suhoor is before dawn. It will ensure that your body have all the nutrients throughout the fasting hours.
What’s the preferred diet for children?
It is best to provide a meal with eggs, cheese, bread, dates , honey and milk for children. This will ensure that the food contains all the essential nutrients to keep the child going for throughout the day.
The whole idea of Ramadan is to make you a more focused and balanced person. If you mess up the menu of your Suhoor and make yourself unhealthy, you are beating the whole purpose of Ramadan. Eat healthy and have a healthy Ramadan.
