Ramadan 2018 : Vizag loves Haleem like no other place.

Ramadan is not just about the 1.6 billion muslims alone. A lot of non muslims in many countries fast to express their solidarity with muslim brothers. In places like Vizag, everyone, irrespective of their religion gets excited about Ramadan for a different reason. Its the haleem.

Haleem is a simple porridge like dish made from wheat, lentils and meat that has been slow cooked for many hours . Hyderabadi Haleem even has the Geographical Indication Status (GIS) and it could probably be the first non veg dish in India to get that status.

Abhishek Dutta and Srinivas Reddy two business man from Hyderabad craves for classic Haleem. Abhishek says this year he wants to try the paya hakeem and keema kaleji made during this month. Another young student says he eagerly waits for ramzan so that he can take part in iftar parties arranged by his friends. Qamar Hanfi says she would love to eat Haleem everyday. Even though it’s available  everyday, it is prepared in the traditional form only at Ramzan time.

There will be plenty more such stories where people share their love for the dish, but Ramzan is not just about eating them. It’s a lot about sharing and being together and spreading message of brotherhood.
