Our Health Minister has recently made a remark on our young nurses that they are not doing enough sacrifices for the people. Life of Lini is before her eyes to look at and study and surely understand the meaning of ‘sacrifice’.Hope her new spectacles with a huge price tag are keen enough to provide her good vision.
While the nurses were fighting in Supreme Court for a decent wage, Nurse Lini’s body engulfed in the fire inside an electric crematorium. Even under the serious situation of Nipa Virus spread in Kerala, the sacrifice of Lini who died at Kozhikode medical College early this morning remains a never ending pain. The nurse got affected by Nipa Virus while on her service to the affected. The Ministers who put stringent rules of thrift to the people and buy themselves expensive glasses, curtains, Innovas and conduct parallel assemblies siphoning off crores from the state exchequer should learn something from this ordinary nurse who sacrificed her life for the people.

Lini had been working in Perambra Taluk Hospital when she was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College due to severe fever. Yesterday she became serious and early this morning she died. Due to the fear of virus spread if the body is buried, with her relatives’ consent the body was creamated.
Only close relatives got to see her body before creamation. Lini had treated Sabith at Perambra Taluk Hospital, who died yesterday due to the virus infection. Lini’s mother is also showing the symptoms of this disease andd has been admitted in Medical College. Their neighbour is also suspected of the infection and is under surveilance. Lini was a native of Chembanod in Perambra and her husband is working abroad. They have two kids. Recent reports suggest that the no. of infected people getting admitted in Perambra Taluk Hospital is increasing, where Lini had been working.
Lini’s death has created a panic among others in the health sector. But the Health Minster is little concerned about their fears or people’s plight and more interested in giving sermons through channels. The main reasons for the virus spread are the inability to detect it early and absence of a Virology Department. Our CM Pinarayi Vijayan had made an offer to people of Kerala that he would start a virology institute here and that till date remains a mirage. The section of Virology is handled by the Microbiology Department in Kozhikode Medical college. Even though came as a late revelation, now the hospitals are providing doctors and nurses with masks and other security apparatus. The people who came to contact with the infected people before are also under fear.
