Two youths died when oil filled in a transformer caught fire accidentally near Alangulam on Monday afternoon even as they were working on a technical fault in the electrical device.
Police said a team of technicians were working to repair the technical snag in a transformer of a windmill installed near Kurippankulam under Alangulam police station limits in the district on Monday afternoon.
As the oil filled up in the transformer suddenly caught fire, P. Kingston (21) of Kurippankulam and co-worker C. Muthupandi (27) of Kayathar in Thoothukudi district suffered serious burns.

While Kingston died of burns even as being brought to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, Muthupandi was admitted to the TVMCH with 75% burns. He died around 6 p.m.
