2018 has not been a great year for Cricket. From ball tampering charges to AB’s retirement a lot of things we didn’t want to happen has happened this year. In an effort to not to add to the list of unfortunate incidents, International Cricket Council has told Pakistani Players to stop wearing smart watches during play to avoid allegations of match fixing. Wise move, indeed.
Two Pakistani players – Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq – appeared to be wearing the watches during the day, though there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing in this instance.
It was Pakistani bowler Hasan Ali who after the opening day of the first test against England revealed that ICC’s corruption team had met the Pakistani players and warned them against wearing the smart device which are capable of functioning like a phone.
I didn’t know who was wearing them but yes, the ICC anti-corruption officer came to speak to us and they told us this is not allowed,” Hasan said after Pakistan dominated play, bowling England out for 184. Pakistan later progressed to 254 for the loss of 5 wickets in 84 overs
Hasan assured that nobody will wear such things again on field. It is not sure which player was wearing it though. So far there are no reports that suggests that the Pakistani players have used the watch to do any monkey business.
The current Pakistani team has three players who were part of a plot to bowl no balls at pre-arranged times during a test match against England at Lords
