India to construct 5500 bunkers along LoC to protect civilians from Pak firing
District Administration Rajouri has initiated the process for construction of more than 5500 bunkers and 200 community halls as well as border bhawans to be completed during current financial year, the proposal for which was approved by the State Government and Ministry of Home Affairs.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary reviewed the arrangements for initiating construction of family bunkers, community bunkers, community halls and border bhawans for border residents in the wake of frequent ceasefire violations.

A total of 5196 bunkers are being constructed in seven blocks along the 120km long stretch of Line of Control. These include Sunderbani, Qila Drahal, Nowshera, Doongi, Rajouri, Panjgrain and Manajakote. Meanwhile more than 260 community bunkers and 160 community halls will also be constructed in villages located in 0-3km distance from Line of Control for accommodation of people during ceasefire violation prompting migration, emergency evacuation. The border bhawans, which can accommodate more than 10,000 people, will be constructed in safer areas of Sunderbani, Nowshera, Doongi, Rajouri and Manjakote.
