A temple priest was paraded naked by devotees at Belagavi as punishment for the inappropriate behaviour to women devotees. The incident occurred at the Kapileshwar temple premises after the priest continued his inappropriate behaviour with women even when he got repeated warnings for the same.
Gopalaiah, who has been performing his duties as priest of Kapileshwar temple, was warned several times by people to his misbehave. However, he continued to misbehave with women. On Monday night, people not only assaulted the priest but also paraded him naked. In a video aired on Tv9 Kannada, the priest can be seen in a semi-naked state and be paraded by locals.

The lawlessness is said to have further continued as the priest’s supporters then allegedly threw acid at the youths who had assaulted the priest. Some of them received severe burns and in another video published on Asianet Newsable, the injured are seen getting treated at a private hospital.
The centuries-old temple is visited by thousands of devotees and such incidents of harassment and lawlessness are absolutely unwarranted and should be dealt with by the authorities in a swift manner.
