The honour killing episode of Kerala is causing a massive public outcry in Kerala. The groom Kevin was abducted by the bride’s brother and his team of criminals, but then the complaint was made soon after the incident that the Police had a lot of time at their disposal to investigate the crime. But the Sub Inspector of Gandhinagar Station, Shibu, informed that he was busy with the security arrangements of Chief minister and would look in to the matter once he was done with those responsibilities. The priorities and negligence eventually took the life of Kevin, but It is in these circumstances that the security offered to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is something worth noticing.

On the day when all the tragic incidents occurred, CM who was in Kottayam had 30 sub inspectors, 14 circle inspectors, DYSPs from Kottayam, pala, Kanjirappally, Vaikom and Changanassery amounting to a total of 500 policemen, forming a ring of protection around him at different time. This is in addition to the 18 Police Commandos and the usual pilot and escort services.
Before his arrival, police presence was established at every twenty meters through which CM’s vehicle was supposed to travel. Police had to do a lot of work amidst the heavy rain to ensure smooth sail for CMs vehicle. Gandhi nagar police station SI Shibu was assigned duty in the team under the leadership of Changanacherry DYSP. Minister may not have to concern himself with the responsibilities of the security, but then he shouldn’t have said that Shibu wasn’t a part of the security team without checking the details.
Protecting the VIPs should not come at the cost of innocent lives. Police officers should realise that the life of an ordinary citizen is as precious as the Minister’s life.
