With in a week after sworning in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, H D Kumaraswamy has already found himself in trouble with the Congress and JD(S) not finding a sweet spot of their newly found alliance. JD(S),it seems is reeling under the disappointment of not getting a simple majority as Congress seems to flex it’s muscles and play the big brother. In a recent statement by Kumaraswamy, he has publicly acknowledged that he is under the ‘mercy’ of Congress.

“I am at the mercy of Congress and not the 6.5 crore people of Karnataka” said the minister ahead of his visit to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Union ministers. “The people of the state rejected me and our party. I had sought an absolute majority. I have heard the statements of farm leaders too and how much they supported me” he added.
He lamented the fact that his government is not an independent one.
But later when BJP came out criticising his remark saying he was “deriding his own people” and doubting his own credentials to serve them, Kumaraswamy soon corrected his statement. He said ” am the chief minister who has the responsibility to six-and-half crore people of the state. My remark that I am at the mercy of the Congress party meant that I am chief minister as long as their support is with me, and to run any programme I will need their support… “
He urged the people not to fall prey to ‘BJPs conspiracy’. About the discussion with congress leaders about portfolio allocation the minister added that he is taking everyone in to confidence and the whole process is handled without affecting the stability of the government.
