Man sells his car to steal it back using a duplicate key

A civil engineer sold his Audi car to an artist and steal it back with using a duplicate key, minutes after pocketing the last fraction of the payment for the luxury car. As confirmed by DCP (Southeast), the accused, one Manoj Singhal was detained from his hometown in Uttar Pradesh when police seized the stolen car, an Audi, in his possession. A complaint in this regard was filed by the buyer, one Sarfarazuddin who was planning to lease out the car to a cab operator post-acquisition.

The complainant reportedly contacted Singhal after he saw an advertisement of the car which fixed the selling price at Rs 17,50,000. He then paid a token amount of Rs 50,000 to the accused and took possession of the car, transferring an amount of Rs 14 lakh via online transfer. The deal demanded him to pay the remaining balance of Rs 3 lakh to Singhal after which the car was to be transferred in his name.

On March 15, the victim was called by Singhal near the Delhi Zoo where he gave the accused a blank cheque and asked him to transfer the ownership of the vehicle. When the victim went back to where he had parked the car near the zoo after handing over the blank cheque to the accused, to his dismay, the car was nowhere to be seen.
