Too much cleavage and hot scenes, South Indian actress never wants to see her movie

Sangeetha, who is known for her role in Pithamagan, recently opened up about the controversial movie Uyir, which released in 2006.

Directed by Samy, who is known for making films on taboo subjects, the film is about a woman, who falls for her husband’s brother. The film stirred up a huge controversy when it released.

She said, “The director had narrated the script to me, and it was very bold and new. I wasn’t sure if I should take up. That evening, I met my family doctor, who is also a psychiatrist. Co-incidentally, she told me about one of her weird cases, where a wife added drug pills to her husband’s food so that she could have fun with her brother-in-law. I was shocked. This was the story, the director narrated to me. The doctor immediately asked me to do the film, and it would be an awareness film.”

Sangeetha added that she accepted the film after certain conditions. She asked the director to cut down the ‘skin show’, which was earlier part of the script.

She added, “We completed the film and the response was totally surprising. The film gave me a huge break. I myself have watched that film only once in my lifetime, that too, during the release, along with my mother. I couldn’t watch that film at all. It was disturbing. I would want to go out of the theatre, but my mother, made me watch it fully.”

She later said, “Even now, if they telecast the film on TV, I’d go off somewhere. I cannot see myself in such a bad negative shaded character. But, I was really surprised with the audience’s response. Many people would come and praise me, and it would be an unexpected appreciation because I didn’t know that the film would be received well. That success actually gave me more and more confidence to take up bold roles.”

She later acted in bold films like Danam in which she played the role of a prostitute.
