In a terrible and unfortunate event happened in the coastal district of Balasore in Odisha, a man put at stake his own wife’s owner for the sake of gambling.The accused husband who worked as a labourer in Hyderabad, took his wife near the village pond late night on May 23. There she saw their neighbour Abhiram Dalai waiting for them. Dalai sexually assaulted the woman in front of her husband, who stood there witnessing the whole incident. Not only that he was threatened by her husband against speaking about this to anyone. Anyhow the woman could not suffer silently this atrocity and she spoke to her parents about this after which they approached the village panchayat which utterly failed to deliver any justice.

Balasore Superintendent of Police Jugal Kishore Banoth told the media that a case had been registered following the victim’s complaint at the Baliapal Police Station on Wednesday.He said to Hindustan Times that they(the police) had formed teams to arrest the husband of the accused as well as the man who sexually assaulted the woman.
The same type of a gambling incident was reported from Uttar Pradesh earlier where a man lost his wife and kids to gambling. In that case, a curious stand had been taken by the village panchayat when they granted the custody of the children to the ‘winner’.The insensitiveness was callous when nobody raised any objection against this injustice by panchayat and custody of one of the lost man’s sons was immediately granted to the winner.
