Selfie death: class 10 student dies of shock

Most of us love taking photos, particularly selfies. Be it a simple, beautiful day or a special day, or even just as a dare.

But did you know many deaths are because of selfies?

A class 10 boy was electrocuted while taking a selfie. The 15-year-old boy stood on the roof of a goods train when the accident occurred. The incident occurred in Andhra Pradesh.

Pagadala Ramasai came into contact with a 27,000 volt live electric wire at Jaggaiahpet in Krishna district on Wednesday and was injured fatally due to his carelessness while clicking himself in the ‘daring’ feat.

The sub-inspector of Jaggaiahpet said: “Ramasai recently completed his Class 10 and was looking for junior college. On Wednesday, at around 1pm, Ramasai along with his friends went to railway station.”

While they were clicking selfies, Ramasai decided to click a daring photo while standing on a goods train that had halted at the station. While clicking selfies, Ramasai had come into contact with a live wire and got electrocuted.

On hearing loud noise and fire, the railway staff rushed to the accident spot. He was brought down with severe injuries. The staff took the boy to a local hospital where he the doctors gave him first-aid but he was referred to a hospital in Vijayawada. Later, he was taken to hospital in Gollapudi, where doctors said he suffered 95% burns and his survival chances were minimal. After five hours of continuous of treatment, Ramasai succumbed to his injuries.
 
A 2016 report said the most number of selfie- deaths in the world occurred in India. In most of the cases, the victims were either hit by a train or fell from heights or drowned while clicking selfies. After India, Pakistan stood at second position with maximum ‘selfie-deaths’ followed by the United States of America. The study also said, in 2016 an estimated 24 billion selfies were uploaded on Google, the selfies were of people of age bracket 18 to 33 years old, most prone to clicking selfies.
