Government offices in India are infamous for red tapism and bribery. But as an officer, if you don’t choose to stop accepting bribe at least on the day of your retirement, then you deserve to be in trouble. Sadashiv Dnyandeo Satpute, an accountant in Forest Department of Maharashtra allegedly accepted a bribe of RS 1500 for issuing a certificate and was arrested. He was attached to the office of the Deputy Conservator of Forest at Kolhapur.
The officer had just two hours to go before his retirement when he decided to make most of the remaining opportunity. He has accepted the bribe for issuing a certificate related to eco-sensitive zone from the Deputy Conservator of Forest Office to a person, the official said. Satpute had asked for 2000, but eventually settled for 1500.
The complainant had approached the ACB unit at Kolhapur, they laid the trap in to which Sadashiv walked right in. The 58 year old officer probably had his worst day at the office on his last day at the office.
