Journalist Leela Menon died

Senior journalist Leela Menon died in Kochi. She had been under treatment for long. She was the Chief Editor of Janmabhumi.

Leela Menon was born as the daughter of Palakkad Neelakandan Kartha and Thummarukudi Janakiyamma on 1932 November 10. She completed her schooling in Vengola Primary School and Perumbavoor Boys school and her graduation was from Nisam College, Hyderabad. She had been working in the postal department before she entered the field of journalism.

Her debut in Journalism was in 1978 through Indian Express. She has worked in New Delhi, Kochi, Kottayam etc. Leela Menon retired while serving as the principal correspondent of Indian Express in 2000. It was at a time when women were reluctant to join as journalists Leela boldly took that job. Many major publications like Outlook, The Hindu, Madhyamam and Malayalam have got a chance to publish the columns handled by her. Winner of many journalistic awards, her autobiography is “Nilaykaatha Symphony” and also a collection of her articles were published under the title “Hridhayapoorvam”.
