In Delhi, 22 cases of dengue and 21 cases of malaria reported

With the reporting of fresh seven cases, the number of people affected by the vector born disease in the National capital reached 22 this season. The data was published in the latest Municipal Report released today.

Till June 2, 21 cases of malaria and 13 cases of Chikungunya have also been reported. Of the 22 cases of dengue, six were recorded in January, three in February, one in March, two in April and 10 this month, according to the report.

Usually, the vector born diseases affect between mid- July and November but this time it may stretch up to mid-december.No cases of vector-borne diseases were reported until January 13.

The Domestic Breeding Checkers have found an appalling condition in which 24,016 households have been becoming a breeding ground for mosquitos. This calculation is under the inspection carried out until June 2. The Municipal Report said that 29,363 legal notices had been served for mosquito-genic conditions and 2065 prosecutions had been initiated.

An advisory on the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases in Delhi was issued by South Delhi Municipal Commissioner P K Goel last month. He urged the heads of educational institutions and offices to cooperate in checking mosquito breeding in their areas. People were asked by him to by coolers designed by National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) which would prevent mosquito breeding than the conventional desert coolers. The Commissioner asked the heads of various offices to nominate a nodal officer to ensure compliance with his advisory and proper prevention.

As per the data tabulation by SDMC for the entire city, at least 10 people died in Delhi due to dengue last year and five among the 10 were not Delhi residents but had died there.

Last year, a total of 9,271 people were affected with vector-borne diseases in Delhi.

The official death toll by the Delhi Municipal Authorities till December 26 was 4, but there were a few more death reportings from some hospitals.

The first victim of dengue was a 12-year boy who died of Dengue Shock Syndrome at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital(SGRH) on August 1 last year. Three more deaths were reported in October by the SDMC.

The number of Malaria cases recorded last year was 1142 and number of Chikungunya cases 940.
