Kerala police have launched a massive search in the area surrounding the Idukki forest for the missing second-year BCom student from here on March 22. Records suggest that the girl, 22-year-old Jesna, was on her way to her aunt’s house when she was last heard from. At present, a team comprising of 125 police personnel are combing through every inch of the Idduki forest area in search of the missing girl.
The personnel divided into 10 teams have been brought from Kerala’s Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts. Search operations began this morning around 9 am with Thiruvalla Deputy Superintendent Chandrashekhar leading the squads along with five other superintendents of police. The search parties will be inspecting the forest ranges of Erumeli, Mundakkayam, Peerumedu, and Kuttikanam throughout the duration of the manhunt.

On May 22, Jesna left her home in Vechoochira to visit her aunt. However, she missed ever since. In the past, Jesna took an autorickshaw to a point from where she boarded a bus to Erumeli and then another bus to Mundakkayam from Erumeli, to reach her aunt’s home. While CCTV footage shows her getting down at Erumeli and boarding a bus to Mundakkayam, police have been unable to track her movement from there onwards.
After she went missing, Jesna’s parents claimed that she would not have gone away intentionally and something may have happened to her onboard the bus to Mundakkayam. An unexpected development also emerged in the case when the burnt body of a female was found by Tamil Nadu police near the Chengalpattu highway in Kancheepuram district on May 28. However, the suspicion that it could be Jesna, was laid to rest after Kerala police confirmed that it was not her body.
