The finance minister Thomas Isacc has been reiterating the plight of the treasury and exhorting government to be more ‘economical’ in it’s spending, but has the government been taking that initiative ? The numbers would say No. In fact, Kerala Government has spend an extravagant amount on it’s advertisment and publicity and the amount probably stands at a total of approximately 70 crores.

Since ascending the throne, different departments of this Government has spent more than 50 crores in two years. The expenses that include printing of flexes and ads on newspapers amounts to 32.7 crores till May 15 2018. Government expenses on publicity peaked during the month of May as they went out on a heavy spending for it’s celebrations of the second anniversary of the government. A lot of such numbers about the latest spending are yet to come and it can be estimated that total will touch about 70 crores.
The fact that all of this is happening at a time amidst a financial crunch is unacceptable. PRD had revealed on March that the government spent about 50 crores for it’s publicity and it was a wake up call for all government machinery to be a little more economical. But it hasn’t transpired that way and it if anything, it is getting worse.
