Two fishermen part of a five-member crew of the fishing boat Noah collided with the merchant vessel, reportedly sustained injuries, the merchant ship identity remains unknown, a mishap occurred at some 18 nautical miles west of Munambam, north of Ernakulam, in the early hours of Thursday.
The vessel and the crew have returned safely to Munambam.
Sources in the Navy and the Coast Guard said the identity of the merchant ship in question could not be established as the name of the ship as reported by the fishermen had not matched with any of the ships present in the area around the time of the incident.

However, both agencies would be ready to provide any assistance sought by the DG shipping, they maintained.
The Mercantile Marine Department under the DG Shipping was trying to investigate the incident, it was learnt.
