7 arrested for throwing eggs at Hardik Patel

Seven people were arrested on Thursday for throwing eggs at Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel’s vehicle in Maharajpur area of Adhartal.

This was the second attack on Hardik in Jabalpur where he had come to address a farmers’ rally, police said.

Jabalpur superintendent of police Shashikant Shukla confirmed the arrests, but did not disclose the identity of those arrested.

Earlier in the morning, Hardik’s car was attacked between Ranital and Aag Chowk near the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office while he was on his way to address a farmers’ meet at Panagar.

According to Congress leader Sanjay Yadav, a group of men on motorcycles threw sandals and eggs at Hardik’s car and then went inside the BJP office. Yadav also alleged that one of the men in the group was brandishing a revolver. “Police are not even registering an FIR in the case,” he claimed.

However, Jabalpur district BJP president GS Thakur denied that any BJP worker threw eggs at Patel’s car. “No BJP worker can do such a thing. I was present at the office when the alleged attack took place and can vouch that no such incident took place. In any case, no BJP worker will touch eggs, leave alone throw it at someone.”
