Is it right for the politicians to take power in their hands? Are they above the law and stop those from doing their work?
BJP MLA Champalal Dewda was booked on Friday for allegedly slapping a constable inside a police station at Uday Nagar in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh, police said. A case was registered against the MLA, his nephew and two others under IPC sections 353 (preventing a government servant from discharging his duty), 332 (assaulting public servant) and other relevant offences, Uday Nagar police station in-charge Shiv Raghuwanshi said.
While the MLA could not be contacted for comments, district BJP spokesperson Shambhu Agarwal said that he can make any statement only after “an impartial probe”.
Dewda’s nephew had reached the police station and entered a restricted area where two rape accused were kept, he said adding the nephew took the water bottle from the accused, following which Santosh questioned him. The MLA’s nephew entered into an argument with Santosh. He then informed the MLA, who rushed to the police station. Dewda not just slapped the constable but also hurled abuses for questioning his nephew’s actions, the police said.
