IT raided Noida engineer bungalow over unspecified amount of cash and more

The Noida Authority on Friday suspended assistant project engineer (civil) Brijpal Singh, income tax department raided bungalow of the suspect in Sector 27, over the disproportionate assets.

I-T department had been gathering information about Singh for the last six months. The searches recovered documents and an unspecified amount of cash. A Mercedes Benz, a Toyota Fortuner and a Hyundai Creta, all with VIP registration numbers ending with 6666, were found parked outside his premises.

According to the sources IT sleuths had conducted raids at 10 locations and found two bungalows, in Faridabad and Noida Sector 33, a house in Sector 52, a company in Sector 63 and a hotel in Singh’s or a family member’s name.

Alok Tandon, CEO and chairman of the Noida Authority, issued Singh’s suspension letter on Friday. “The I-T department conducted a raid and it appears Brijpal Singh’s total wealth is more than his legitimate income. His act has brought a bad name to Noida Authority and the state government. Hence, he is suspended with immediate effect,” Tandon said in a statement.

The latest allegations of corruption come days after the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) began an investigation against its former CEO PC Gupta for a land scam allegedly worth Rs 125 crore.

In 2016, Noida suspended its former engineer-in-chief Yadav Singh, who was convicted of making a massive tenders scam and was eventually detained by CBI.

I-T officials spent 10 hours at Brijpal Singh’s house on Thursday. On Friday, they questioned him and his family. The list of properties in Singh’s name also includes two houses that the tax officials intercepted Singh owns in sectors 50 and 51, sources said
