A speeding truck rammed into a stationary UP State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) from behind on National Highway 91, at least six pilgrims, including four women killed and over 12 injured in Bulandshahr district early Sunday morning.
The driver of the UPSRTC bus had parked the bus on the roadside of the busy highway after it fixed technical snag and a flat tyre. The bus was going to Haridwar and the majority of the stranded passengers were on a pilgrimage to the holy town for a dip in Ganga.
The driver and the conductor of the bus had informed the UPSTRC Bulandshahr and were awaiting help to fix the flat tyre and fix the technical snag. Since it was dark, passengers remained seated on the bus when a speeding truck rammed into it from behind. Injured passengers claim that the driver of the truck could not see the stationed bus as its parking lights were not switched on.

The high impact intensity cause the back portion of the bus was completely damaged and those sitting on the back rows suffered maximum injuries. Six passengers, including the bus driver, were killed on the spot and over a dozen sustained serious injuries in the tragic mishap.
UPSRTC officials from Bulandhahr and policemen from nearby Kotwali Dehat rushed to the spot and got injured admitted to the district hospital. The condition of some of the injured are critical, said a police official. Those who died in the accident have been identified as Anjali, Sunita Kumari, Aradhana, Sunita Devi, Anil Kumar and the bus driver Siyaram Tyagi. They were all resident of Agra and Aligarh districts.
The truck driver and the cleaner, who also sustained injuries, have been arrested and a case has been registered against them. Bodies have been sent for the autopsy and their family members have been informed, said the police official.
