Jammu Kashmir: terrorists infiltration bid foiled by Army

Once again the vigilant Indian Army has foiled the plans of the terrorists who were infiltrating the borders.

The Army said on Sunday that it killed six militants to foil an infiltration bid from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“The firefight between own jawans and infiltrating terrorists is underway. So far, six terrorists have been eliminated,” defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.

This is the fourth such clash taking place in frontier Kupwara since the Centre announced conditional ceasefire for the Muslim fasting month of Ramzan in Jammu and Kashmir on May 16. In earlier clashes, eleven militants were killed at Shah Nagar Jat Gali (pass) in Handwara, Tanghdar and Machael sectors close to the de facto border on May 18, 26 and June 6, respectively.

The authorities say that such situations and engagements with militants do not fall within the ambit of the conditional Ramzan truce as per which only anti-militancy operations have been suspended within the hinterland of J&K to “to help the peace-loving Muslims observe Ramzan in a peaceful environment”.

Giving the details of the latest incident, the defence spokesman said that the militants tried to sneak into Keran sector after breaching the LoC fence on Sunday morning. “Our jawans noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Keran sector and challenged the infiltrators. In the ensuing exchange of fire six infiltrators were killed,” he said.
