After all the last hour seat divisions between Congress and JD(S), it seems that they forgot to divide something else! of course, the office rooms. Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress Legislative Party leader Siddaramaiah, who doesn’t possess any constitutional post in the newly formed Congress-JD(S) Govt. in the state, anyhow has been allotted the lavish office of former speaker in Vidhan Soudha in Bangaluru, which K R Ramesh Kumar, the current speaker took over from former Speaker KB Koliwad.
K R Ramesh Kumar has been working from his designated office on the first floor of the complex for the past two weeks.
Siddaramaiah, the 69-year-old political veteran and the Chairman of the JDS-Congress government coordination committee after their alliance formation post-May 12 assembly elections, was unanimously elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party in May.
The new office has all the luxurious amenities like high-end wooden furniture, luxurious sofas, chairs, LED TV and other comforts
Congress’ defeat in the Karnataka Assembly elections, turned a senior party member against Siddaramaiah who alleged that his arrogance, his authoritarian stand-in candidate selection and the Lingayat issue cost the party.
The office had undergone a renovation and an expansion of the single -room office to 2 during K B Koliwad’s tenure which cost Rs.68 lakhs.BJP had then raked up the issue citing farmer suicides in Karnataka and the state government’s luxury in the expansion of a single-room office. However, Koliwad defended his decision and stated that the place suffered space crunch, so it had to be expanded for holding meetings.
The Karnataka Assembly election results announced on May 15, showcased the emergence of BJP as the single largest party with 104 seats, but short of a majority by 8 seats. The Congress which seized 78 seats became victorious in striking up a deal with Janata Dal(Secular) which got 38 seats and thus proved their majority and grabbed power in Karnataka.
