In multiple raids conducted by the Central Boards of Excise and Customs in pubs, restaurants, and bars within eight months from August 2017 to April 2018 in Delhi, the officials found nine popular spots which served stale beer to their customers.
The officials however refrained from naming the places.
An information regarding the Excise Department’s raid in 214 pubs, restaurants and bars with enforcement teams and found 94 resto bars which violated excise rules, was provided as a response to AAP MLA Vishesh Ravi’s question which was accessed by Hindustan Times. The department revealed to HT that nine resto bars in Hauz Khas, Vasant Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Saket, New Friends Colony, Punjabi Bagh, Laxmi Nagar, Connaught Place and Janakpuri were serving expired beers.

Beer crates were officially inspected for the dates till the time they are fit for consumption. That is, if a beer label says best for consumption before 8 months, it is a violation of the law if it has been sold after 8 months.
Apart from the complaints of selling stale or expired beers, the officers also received complaints regarding serving alcohol to underage customers. Legal age limit for consuming alcohol in Delhi is 25. The Excise Department had made a proposal to the Delhi government to reduce the minimum age of alcohol consumption to 21 years.
