Incessant monsoon rains were obstructing the operations of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) in Tripura. Non-stop rain caused floods submerged its drilling sites especially in northern part of the State.
Tripura Asset of the ONGC on Tuesday confirmed that its operational activities were blocked and affected many times due to rains. ‘The drilling location at Pechartal of Unakoti district hds been affected by torrential rains’, ONGC spokesperson Debashis Saraswati said in a statement.
He said that the RIG location at Pechartal had been flooded by rain water which left heavy types of equipment submerged. The water level in the particular site was constantly rising, he added.

Mr Saraswati informed that the crew and staff were safely evacuated from the site. Experts capped ‘X mass tree’ on the well to keep it secure.
The exploration work would remain suspended there till climate situation limps back to normality.
ONGC was also worried about another drill site at Panisagar in Unakoti district. The location had been submerged forcing temporary stop of work.
Meanwhile, heavy downpour obstructed the normal life across the State on Tuesday. Several localities and roads were flooded due to waterlogging.
