In a shocking turn of events, a mother has been declared dead twice by the hospital.
Tragedy took a new form in Kolkata after a woman died twice in the same day – first in the death certificate issued by the hospital and then after her journey from her funeral to the hospital.
Sibani Biswas, 55, suffering from sepsis, was declared dead by government-run R G Kar Hospital at around 7.15 am on Friday. The hospital issued the death certificate and handed over the body for the last rites to the family.
Sibani, a resident of Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas, Sibani got admitted at R G Kar hospital on June 11. She was admitted with high pressure, diabetes and a blood infection in Barasat hospital. From there, last Sunday she was referred to R G Kar Hospital. Her family members shifted her to R G Kar on Monday as her condition deteriorated.

In R G Kar hospital, Sibani was kept in ICU as she was critical. Today, after she was declared dead, her family members took her to Kashipur burning ghat at around 3.30 PM. All the last rites were performed by the priest and her body was in the queue when the family suddenly noticed her breathing.
As media started showing the incident live, the administration stepped in and took Sibani Biswas to R G Kar again.
After the massive medical negligent, the victim’s family refused to take her back to the same hospital and decided to go to a Madhyamgram. “The hospital had given a death certificate to us in the morning. So I refused to go there and we took her in an ambulance to Madhyamgram,” Sukamal Biswas, Sibani’s son told the media.
Sibani’s son reveals that it is very “unfortunate” and blamed the hospital for their laxity. “My mother’s body was kept unattended for several hours since 7.15 am in the morning. Her condition was critical. We reached the hospital in Madhyamgram so late that we could not be saved. She died in front of the hospital,” Sukamal said.
