Chief Minister’s Office Concealed Sriram Venkitaraman’s Report on Munnar Land Encroachment

The detailed report that Devikulam Sub Collector Sriram Venketaraman had submitted before Chief Minister has gone missing, or is possibly being concealed. The file has completely vanished from sub collector’s office. The report which was submitted on the month of may of last year has been catching dust in C.M’s office for so long. As it has completely disappeared from Sub Collectors office, any further proceedings on land encroachment case has become impossible.

The request filed on RTI, asking a copy of the report was met with the reply that the Sub Collectors report and related files are not available. When the same request was made to Revenue Department’s office, the reply was that all the concerned files were with C.M’s office and that the copy of documents could only be given after the Office makes a final decision on it. The rules clearly mention that the department in which the file originated should keep a copy of it.

Sreeram Venketaraman had made some bold moves in Munnar and was instrumental in bringing the details of land encroachment to the public attention. His sense of duty however ended up in him earning a transfer order. Ever since, the Munnar issue and the talks about it in public sphere is non existent.
