Argentina’s entry in to the last 16 wasn’t smooth. But having reached there, it’s fans would have hoped for a revival of sorts. For some moments Argentina gave that impression, coming back to take a lead of a goal after trailing. But then France fired into Argentina’s lax defense and scored 2 more goals to show the South American team the exit. Final score France 4 – Argentina 3
It was on 13th minute that Antoine Greizman successfully converted a penalty for France. Armani went a fraction too early and was punished by the composure of Griezmann. Score France 1- Argentina 0
With only 4 minutes to go the end of the first half of the match, Argentina squared things through Angel Di Maria. The winger picked up the ball in the middle of the park and pulled the trigger on his left boot from 35 yards. His effort had the power to arc away from the hand of Lloris into the top corner. Three minutes later, Argentina went ahead as Mercado deflected Messi’s strike home. Argentina suddenly took the lead as Messi collected the ball at the back post and turned into space to fire at goal. His effort struck the legs of his teammate Mercado in the six-yard box to wrong-foot Lloris and the ball trickled into the net. Score France 1 – Argentina 2
On 57th minute, France scored the equaliser through Pavard. He easily skimmed a half-volley into the top corner. The trajectory of the ball drifted inside the post and away from the hand of Armani into the top corner.
7 minutes later, France surprised everyone Mbappe drilled his effort home. He twisted and turned inside the box to find room for a strike in the left inside channel. He connected with the left foot and the strike went underneath the body of Armani. Score France 3 – Argentina 2
With it’s nose already in front, with Argentina’s looking a depleted unit, France fired another one home at the 68th minute. It was again Mbappe who provided the finish from a flowing France move. He held his composure in the box to bury his effort beyond the reach of Armani into the bottom corner.
In the dying moments of the match, Sergio Aguero scored to make it 4 – 3. But then by then, it was too late..
