Minor’s suicide gets recorded by bystanders; VIDEO goes viral

With their phones and or social media platforms in the video mode, the eyewitnesses record the suicide of a minor girl.

A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the eighth floor of a building in Kandivali, a western suburb in Mumbai. The incident occurred last evening at Gardenia Cooperative Housing Society in Thakur village, police told the media. The entire incident was recorded by some onlookers and has gone viral on the social media.

“Harshika Dhirendra Mayavashi ended her life by jumping off the eighth floor of the building. She stayed on the fifth floor in the same building,” an official informed the news agency. Another official said, when the girl was standing on the parapet wall of the eighth floor, some residents noticed her and tried to stop her.

“When she fell to the ground, people immediately took her to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” he said.

“The motive behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained and we are making inquiring with her relatives and friends in this connection. We will also examine her mobile phone and other gadgets,” the official said. The police will also examine her activities on the social media, he added. Further, an accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at Samata Nagar police station in this connection and the probe is underway.

In an earlier incident on June 27, a nine-year-old girl committed suicide today by hanging herself from the ceiling at her south Delhi residence. The police were informed that the girl was brought dead to the Safdarjung Hospital.

The body was inspected and ligature marks were found on the neck. The mother of the girl found her hanging from the ceiling with the help of a nylon rope and a towel, the police added. No foul play was suspected, the police said, adding that they were probing what led the girl to take the extreme step.
